Drama is…
Drama is a category or form of art that is meant to be performed through actions, poses, and dialogue. It conveys the emotion of the actor and presents it dramatically to the audience. That is a dictionary definition. Personally, drama is not only an art form. It is a way of expression. The arts is a way of expressing how you feel without the use of words. However, drama is in my opinion the most practical of the arts. You could not draw your emotions on the spot most of the time, and it would be unwise to burst into song. Drama, however, is a good way of expression. In fact, we are always performing drama. It is said that a good musician is able to give the best rendition of a song, but a good actor shows how good they are when they have the ability to hide their actions. I think this is true because if a person can hide what they really feel in a demanding situation, it would be very easy to act in the shoes of someone else instead of your own, which is the basis of acting.
Ritual is…
Ritual is a practice that is performed as a person or object is transformed into a different state. This does not that the ritual necessarily changes the person. It may be a celebration of a change, like a birthday party, where the change will take place no matter if the ritual is had or not. The other kind is when the change is a product of the ritual and performing the ritual is the only way to acquire the change, like a Christian baptism.
Just before my group performed out ritual I felt…
I felt doubtful at how my group would perform. We had more ideas than we could handle and as a result, was unsure of how it would turn out. All six people in our group had a lot of ideas, but like The Apprentice, too many ideas and no organized plan to carry them out would ultimately equal failure.
Right after I finished my season ritual I felt…
Afterwards, I felt that we did not perform to the best of our ability. As I said before, we had too many ideas of how to carry out the performance. In the end, the ritual felt inconsistent. We had used too many ideas from too many people. Every person had a different visualization of how to carry out our ideas. We all had great ideas on the mood, the actions, and the sound effects, but our minds think differently. A lot of the motions felt like they didn’t fit in with the rest of the performance.
The group that most performed with excellence was…
I think the group that most deserves the title it the winter ritual group. They put a new spin on winter. Instead of the image of winter being dark and cold, they made it more friendly and likable through their most intriguing soundtrack. Also, they got the audience the most involved, like making snow angels. They did the best because they brought out what a ritual is all about, a lead actor and the involvement of the audience.
The most important “theatrical” element of ritual is/are…
The most important element is mood. The mood of the ritual determines the actions, dialogue, and participation of the audience. Consider the difference between a birthday party and a funeral. The birthday party is a celebration, and has a happy mood. As a result, those that attend the party may be more active and participate more. A funeral, on the other hand, has a very solemn mood. The participants do not get involve and the ritual moves along very slowly.
